Sanjay J. Chauhan

Physician & Servant

He was born in Vadodara, Gujarat, in the 1960s into a Christian family. He attended Experimental High School in Vadodara.

He remembers classmates asking him, "What would you do if someone slapped you on one cheek?" as they explored the Christian faith in middle school. At the time, he remembers getting angry and telling the classmate that he would get slapped as well.

He was usually in the top 5 during his school years and passed the New SSC exam of 1978 with flying colors, ranking 5th in the Sayajigunj Center, Vadodara. He went on to become a physician, earning an MBBS degree from Government Medical College, Surat, Gujarat, in the mid-1980s.

He worked as a Medical Officer at rural facilities in Gujarat for two years before migrating to the USA, where he continued his studies and completed the Neurology Program at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in Springfield, IL, in 1993. He has practiced clinical neurology in Visalia, CA, and later in Fresno, California, ever since.

By his own account, he didn't truly come to know the Christian faith until he was in his 60s. He feels he should have studied the Christian faith with the same discipline he applied to his MBBS and neurology training. That lack of understanding caused him to stumble in his personal life — but he repented and found a new way in Jesus Christ.

Today, he believes that true Christian faith gives anyone a content life here and now, in spite of life's day-to-day trials. A content life leads to joy, peace, and prosperity in one's relationships with family, friends, and the whole community — a gift that is priceless.
